AM Best Co. Upgrades National Life’s Credit Rating

After independent review of National Life Group’s financial strength, AM Best has upgraded our financial strength rating to A+ (Superior) from A (Excellent). 

 

CEO Mehran Assadi called the action “a very strong endorsement of National Life’s financial strength.”

“Our
mission is to deliver on our promises,” he said. “This rating upgrade
by a globally respected independent agency is evidence that we will
indeed deliver on our promises.”

In spite of their overall negative outlook on the life industry as a whole, AM Best recognizes that we are strong and will be around to deliver on our promises.

For a company like ours – where our promise is our product – this A+ affirmation is a big deal, a VERY big deal, though not a surprise because we earned this upgrade.

In announcing the upgrade, the rating agency specifically cited:

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is committed to rewarding you for your extra efforts throughout the year with a special bonus program for new Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan sales. It’s our way of saying thank you for all you do.

The Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan Bonus Program includes a tiered bonus schedule based on your production level. The higher the number of Medicare Supplement Insurance policies sold by a writing producer throughout the program period, the higher total payout. 

The total payout maximum is $100,000.

Bonus Amounts Based on Production

There are three bonus-per-policy amounts, depending on the total number of policies sold during the bonus period:• If you sell up to 20 policies, your bonus per policy is $50.• If you sell up to 30 policies, your bonus per policy is $75.• If you sell 31 or more policies, your bonus per policy is $100. 

You must sell a minimum of 5 new policies during the program period to qualify for the bonus.

New Google Certification for ACA (Affordable Care Act) Advertising

Update to Healthcare Policy (June 2021):

Google has announced a new certification program for health insurance advertisers to
aid in curbing misinformation or fraud. This special certification will
be required for ACA health insurers or third-party brokers who want to
run Google Ads. Brokers will need to provide documentation showing they are permitted under state law to sell health insurance. 
 

 

Beginning May 3rd, 2021, brokers can apply for certification. Certification must be completed by June 2nd, 2021. If certification is not completed by June 2nd, Google will no longer be able to serve their ads.

Blue Cross 2022 Medicare Certication Training

Dear Producers, We are pleased to announce that the 2022 Medicare certification training will be available to producers in July.

Details

WHAT

2022 Medicare certification training will be available soon.

The annual mandatory training will include two sections:
the AHIP and the HCSC curricula. Sections 1 and 2 must be completed by
individual producers and sub-producers including all agency principals.
All producers must complete all courses in order to be deemed certified
to sell 2022 MAPD/PDP plans.

WHEN

June 21st, 2021 AHIP Training Begins

The AHIP training
will be available on June 21st, 2021. Once again, HCSC has negotiated a
lower rate for our contracted producers. The AHIP discounted rate for
our producers is $125 instead of $175. In order to receive the
discounted rate, you must use the AHIP/HCSC partner link we’ll provide
at a later date.

July 7th, 2021 HCSC Training Begins (Tentative)

The second section
of the training including the HCSC training and other required forms
will launch on July 7th. All producers must complete the training prior to
marketing/selling 2022 MAPD/PDP plans.

WHY

The Centers for
Medicaid and Medicare Services, as well as HCSC, requires producers to
complete the annual training process in accordance with CMS regulations
at Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 417, 422, and 423.

 

2021 Medicare Curriculum Announcement

The 2021 AHIP course will not be available after June 17th, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

Producers who wish to complete the
2021 MAPD/PDP curriculum may instead take the 2022 AHIP course along
with the 2021 Blue Cross Medicare Options plan course, exam and forms.
As of Wednesday, July 7th, producers seeking to complete the 2021 training
will be assigned a dual plan year curriculum for both 2021 and 2022.
The combined curriculum will satisfy the certification requirement for
both 2021 and 2022.

Your Medicare Renewal Compensation

All producers must be certified by
December 31st, 2021 to retain all prior year renewals (exemptions apply
for PDP plans sold between 2006 and 2008).

Friday Health Plans: 2021 SEP Commission Bonus Program

INDIVIDUAL HEALTH PLANS: New Members

COMMISSION: $100 per Member

Qualifications & Details:

  • Must enroll a minimum of 5 new members to be eligible for the bonus.
  • Bonus is on every new member sold, once a minimum of 5 have been effectuated
  • Bonus is retroactive and applies to effective dates of March 1st through September 1st, 2021. Policies must be bound by September 1st to qualify
  • Bonus will be calculated for a one-time payment in September and paid in October


 

Exclusions: 

  • Transfers between Individual plans, and accounts transferred due to change in broker of record.
  •  General Agents are excluded from this program and do not qualify for the bonus.

The writing agent must meet all compliance regulations and must be appointed in the state of Texas and be in good standing at the time of sale and bonus payment.  

Bonus payments are made payable to the Producer/Agency who receives standard commissions payments. No advance payments will be made. 

The terms and conditions of this commission schedule are subject to change at the sole discretion of Friday Health Plans and/or its designated representatives upon notice to the broker.  

Final interpretation of any or all provisions in this commission schedule, or resolution of any disputes arising from this compensation plan, rests solely with Friday Health Plans and/or its designated representatives.  

This provision is applicable to all insurance producers and insurance agencies over whom the Texas Division of Insurance has authority.  

Commissions will be paid only if agent/agency is licensed and in good standing with the State of Texas. Appointment with Friday Health Plans must be current.  

See Friday Health Plans producer agreement for all for all terms and conditions pertaining to commission schedule.  

Friday Health Plans reserves the right to amend, change, or terminate this commission and bonus schedule as outlined in the Producer Agreement.

2021 Marketplace Special Enrollment Period Report

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
(CMS) report that over 528,000 Americans signed up for health insurance
from the start of the 2021 Marketplace Special Enrollment Period (SEP)
for consumers in HealthCare.gov States through March 31st, including
approximately 322,000 signups from March 1st to March 31st. 

February 15th – March 31st, 2021

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services (CMS) report that over 528,000 Americans signed up for health
insurance from the start of the 2021 Marketplace Special Enrollment
Period (SEP) for consumers in HealthCare.gov States through March 31st,
including approximately 322,000 signups from March 1st to March 31st.

The number of people signing up for health
insurance from the start of the SEP opportunity on February 15th through
March 31st represents a substantial increase from 2020 and 2019, when
209,000 and 171,000 consumers signed up for health insurance
respectively.[1]
In previous years, SEPs were available only for qualifying life events,
whereas this year the Biden Administration opened a SEP to all
Americans in response to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

Data suggest a more diverse set of American
consumers are enrolling in health insurance coverage through the SEP. Of
enrollees who identified a race from February 15th through March 31th, 17%
identified as Black, compared to about 11% during the same period in
both 2020 and 2019. In addition, lower income Americans represent a
larger percentage of new plan selections so far during the SEP compared
to prior years. Among consumers requesting financial assistance, 41%
have a household income between 100% and 138% of the federal poverty
level, compared to 38% in 2020 and 33% in 2019.
